Creating a ShareFile Service Account & API Key

How to configure your ShareFile tenant to allow ActiveNav Cloud access

Before configuring your ShareFile Collector in ActiveNav Cloud, it is necessary to define two entities in your ShareFile tenant:

  • Employee Account - This account is used to connect to your ShareFile and access your target data.
  • API Key - this is a shared secret between your ShareFile tenant and your ActiveNav Cloud tenant

Employee Account Requirements

This account needs to be created in your ShareFile tenant and will require permission to read your target data and access some tenant information. This account must be a member of the Super User Group.

The employee account must also have the following User Access permissions:

  • People > Manage clients
  • People > Manage employees
  • Company Account Info > Access reporting

Generating an API Key

To generate an API Key for ActiveNav Cloud, log into the ShareFile API portal here.

In the left-hand menu, click Get an API Key.

The Application Name of the API Key is for management within ShareFile and should be descriptive as in the example below. For the Redirect URI option, put a tick in the I don’t know or will not use a Redirect URI checkbox.
