Addressing Slower Performance Due To Anti-Virus Activites

Due to the nature of how Discovery Center accesses files coupled with how anti-virus software monitors and scans systems, the net result is often a slow down in performance for indexes and report actions.
Follow these instructions to mitigate some of these challenges.

Resolution

Anti-virus software will need to be configured with exclusions for Discovery Center where possible. The steps below are generalized in a way that can be applied to most anti-virus.

Configuration for the best possible results may need to be applied to both the Discovery Center app server and the file servers being accessed.

App Server Configuration

  • Disable virus scanning for the “FileCache” and “SearchData” folders.
  • For outgoing activity, these attempt to achieve scan-free access to remote content via:
    • Disabling virus scanning for specific remote locations
    • Disabling virus scanning for file access by specific processes (ANSkimmer.exe, ANAnalysis.exe, ActiveNavigation.Scheduler.exe)

File Server Configuration

  • Disable local virus scanning for access from specified remote addresses - ie. the Discovery Center application server.
