The Basics
Standard licensing is sold and managed by Volume Under Management (VUM). VUM is reported within the Discovery Center interface (under System Settings > Licensing), and is an instantaneous measure of the total volume of all files discovered (skimmed).
What if I delete content?
The deletion of content from a discovered repository will reduce VUM and free up capacity for content Discovery.
What is 'Under Management'?
Once a repository (eg a server, share, SharePoint site collection) has been discovered (skimmed) it will be deemed ‘under management’. Repositories bought under management should not be removed. This means that those repositories will continue to contribute to VUM.
There may be occasions where, for good practical purposes, a customer may need to re-deploy VUM license limits. In such cases, with Account Manager’s authority, the solution design and commercial licensing arrangements must be formally reviewed and new licenses issued to named Discovery Center host servers.
How do you handle multiple Discovery Centers?
A customer will buy VUM in order to meet its overall organization’s needs. In practice, VUM will need to be deployed across more than one Active Navigation Discovery Center. In such cases the purchased VUM which will divided across deployed Discovery Centers as determined by the solution design process; each Discovery Center will have its own license key applied and its own VUM limits. These limits are applied to a named Discovery Center host server.
Technical limits
A single Discovery Center has technical scale limits based upon VUM, after which performance may begin to degrade. Technical limits will always supersede licensed VUM for any given Discovery Center.
