      Configuring Discovery Center to Use a Migrated or Renamed Database

      This knowledge base article will provide the required instructions to configure Discovery Center to use a relocated or renamed database. The recommended steps to keep your Discovery Center's configuration intact is to perform a 'custom uninstall' followed by a re-install of Discovery Center using the updated database name. 

      Notes:

      • To perform this task, the user must have the standard elevated privileges to perform Discovery Center Installations. For more information, see the Discovery Center Installation Guide.
      • This process will not remove historical data that exists within Discovery Center.
      • You will need to reprocess your reporting database after any new installations
      • Workbench search results will be unavailable until you reclassify relevant indexes after reinstall.

      Procedure

      1. Backup your SQL database if you do not already have a recent backup.

      2. Open Control Panel and navigate to Programs and features

      3. Select Active Navigation Discovery Center then select the "Change" option at the top.

      4. Select "Remove"

      5. Uncheck the option to "Remove Database with uninstall" and finish the uninstall.

      6. Reinstall Discovery Center. Enter the updated database information at the SQL Server settings step of the installation wizard.

      7. The installer should alert you that the database already exists on the server. If it does not, go back to the previous step and double check your entry.

      8. Proceed with rest of the installation.

      9. Once the installation is complete and you verify access to the website, your Discovery Center will be completely configured to use the updated database.

      If your database has been restored or detached in preparing for this article, it will leave some outstanding issues with communication between the SQL and SSAS databases.
