Purpose & Scope
Sometimes a file will need to be restored from Quarantine. This is the procedure to restore that file or files from Quarantine that may have been quarantined by mistake.
Procedure
Below are the steps that need in order to restore files from the Quarantine location.
Step 1: Ensure that the Quarantine location has been indexed.
Navigate to the Network Map and find the path that contains the Quarantine folder that has all of the files that have been Quarantined.
Once you have found the location, navigate to the Indexes tab and Indexing Overview to see if the Quarantine location has been recently Indexed.
Step 2: Run a report
After you verify that the Quarantine location has been Indexed, you will need to run a report to view the containers or files that may need to be restored.
In order to run a report, follow these steps:
- From the Reporting and Actions tab
- Select the Reporting Overview sub-tab
- Select the Locations tab
- Navigate to the location containing the file(s) that need to be unquarantined.
- Navigate to the location containing the files that need to be restored
- In the right-hand pane, select the Actions tab
- Report Type: Calculated Fields
- Calculated Field: Age By Modified Date
- Click on Generate for the report
Step 3: Select Containers/Files to restore
Next, you will need to select the container list or file list that you have chosen to restore. Navigate to the Reporting and Actions Tab, and then click on the Report Viewer Subtab.
Click on the Report that you just generated and then click on the container list or file list tab to select the containers or files to restore.
Step 4: Migrate the files
You will then need to migrate the files to a new location so that they can be restored. Follow these steps to migrate your files that you wish to be restored from Quarantine by following these steps:
- Click on the Actions link under the Reporting and Actions > Report Viewer tab
- Click Migrate
Select Destination Container

- Click Browse
- Navigate to the same destination container level as the source files in quarantine are in.
Example Source: \\server\folder1\Quarantine\destinationserver\folder2\folder3\FoldersOrFilesToRestore
Example Destination: \\destinationserver\folder2\folder3 - Destination Container Structure: Replicate Source Containers
- Number of Container Levels: All
- Include Parent Container: Uncheck
- If Destination Folder Already Exists: Merge Permissions
- Source Options: This is a user decision whether to keep the source files or remove them. If removing, there are options on how to handle empty containers. Please see Tech Tip on Deleting Empty Containers with Discovery Center to determine you’re the choice that fits your needs.
- Action Annotation: This is an optional field if the user wants to make a note as to why the file was restored. This could include who approved the restore or the justification why.
- Click Migrate
Step 6: Monitor the Action
- Verify the Action is running in Activity/Current Activity
- When the task completes
- Click Complete
- Verify the files successfully migrated and that there were no warnings
Step 7: View the Restored Files
If you would like to view the files that you have restored to make sure that they were the correct files you wanted to restores, you can navigate to the new file structure you created and take a look.
