Purpose & Scope
This outlines the options for the Delete action when deleting empty containers after performing another action.
Procedure
Once you have decided which files you would like to delete/move into Quarantine location, you will be prompted for an option on what to do with empty containers during deletion.
Delete Action Options
When using the Delete Action function in Discovery Center, there are three options available under the Cleanup empty containers during deletion drop-down:
- Take no action (default setting)
- Remove all
- Remove containers emptied by this action
Remove All
Remove all is the most aggressive option, which will delete all empty containers (folders) above and below file location for the entire share, as well as any containers within the Area of Interest or Location that the action was run from. While the Remove all function would be a very handy feature for smaller deployments, it’s not a good option for larger deployments/network shares.
Folders deletions will appear in the audit log for the action.
Remove Containers Emptied by This Action
The Remove containers emptied by this action option is a more practical option for folder cleanup after file deletion and will only remove containers affected by the action. If folder cleanup is desired, this is a more viable option.
User Rights Considerations
To ensure only properly trained users have access to power features, best practice dictates that application teams consider limiting a user’s ability to action files using Discovery Center by ensuring the proper roles are granted.
Simply removing the role of Information Manager would remove a user’s ability to action (delete, migrate, quarantine) files. It would be best to also restrict the Discovery Center Sys Admin role as well since this role can manually add users to roles.
