Overview

This set of articles has been created specifically for ActiveNav Discovery Center Project Suite customers that are using or planning to use ActiveNav Cloud. There is no direct migration path of data or configuration options between the two products, so these articles should be used as a guide to aid the planning of the ActiveNav Cloud deployment, based on an understanding of current Discovery Center Project Suite deployments. Playbooks have been created to guide users through the process of using ActiveNav Cloud to solve specific Information Governance use cases, so they should be used in conjunction with these articles for any users making the journey from Discovery Center Project Suite to ActiveNav Cloud.

In this set of articles as well as in our ActiveNav Cloud Playbooks we use a fictitious organization, “Prest Team”, to illustrate aspects of our advice throughout the migration process and subsequent use of ActiveNav Cloud.

Use Case Flow

Our recommended project flow for the Migration from Discovery Center Project Suite to ActiveNav Cloud is built upon the following core steps.

1.  Understand Discovery Center Project Suite Position

Activity Description

Run a series of Custom Queries on each deployed Discovery Center Project Suite instance to provide a snapshot of the state of data and configuration for each 

Goals

Provide reports on data and configuration state of each deployed Discovery Center Project Suite instance to inform planning of ActiveNav Cloud deployment

Participants

 Discovery Center Project Suite System Administrator, AN Administrator and IT team 

Pre-requisites

  • Access to all Discovery Center Project Suite Application servers

  • Access to all Discovery Center Project Suite Reporting UIs (System Administrator and AN Administrator roles)

  • Discovery Center Project Suite Report Custom Queries received from ActiveNav Support

Outputs

  •  CSV Reports from each active Discovery Center Project Suite instance 

2.  Plan ActiveNav Cloud Configuration

Activity Description

Use understanding of existing Discovery Center Project Suite instance configuration and data elements to plan deployment of ActiveNav Cloud

Goals

Plan in place for deployment of ActiveNav Cloud Business Units , Credentials, Collectors, Data Sources and Custom Rules

Participants

Project Sponsor, IT team, Project / Program Manager

Pre-requisites

  • Current state of all Discovery Center Project Suite Deployments understood
  • Project goals defined for use of ActiveNav Cloud

Outputs

  • Migration plan for mapping of Discovery Center Project Suite elements to ActiveNav Cloud to define requirements for:

1.       Business Units

2.       Users

3.       Collector Groups and Collectors Hosts

4.       Data Sources

5.       Credentials

6.       Custom Feature Definitions

7.       Custom Scoring Definitions       

3.  Decommission Discovery Center Project Suite Instances

Activity Description

Uninstall all Discovery Center Project Suite components from local infrastructure, re-provision hardware as required

Goals

Remove the Discovery Center Project Suite footprint from any servers, reconsider use of servers that Discovery Center Project Suite components were installed on

  • Use of ActiveNav Cloud established and fulfilling business needs

Outputs

  • Freeing up of hardware and software license components
